Bible Truth About Women –

What They Don’t Tell You

Genre – Accessible Theology

Why would God give women the same Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, Creation Dominion Mandate and Great Commission as men—then restrict their use? This book exposes translation and interpretation inconsistencies, deceptions, and traditions, providing answers to many questions about how Jesus would have members of his body operate in partnership, not hierarchy.

While the Bible is inerrant in its original languages, some who most loudly proclaim this truth have not been completely trustworthy on the gender issue. This book is a scholarly yet accessible explanation of passages that have been used to prohibit women and explanation of often-overlooked, empowering passages that reveal God’s intentions and heart.

The book begins by explaining and numbering misleading tactics, and then as it goes through each Bible passage, easy reference sidebars highlight which misleading tactics have been employed with that passage. This enables the reader to choose whether to skim or to go deeper on each passage, while keeping the distilled issue in mind.

Lydia Grace

With four decades of ministry experience and rigorous scholarship, Lydia brings deep insight to one of the church’s most confusing issues. Raised by a Baptist pastor and educated at a Christian college, she spent many years believing in restrictions on women. Finally, she studied the non-restrictive view, and instead of discovering that it was based on feelings and wishful thinking, she found it supported by stronger textual evidence—a discovery that led her to seminary to acquire more resources for research.

Why is the English “plain reading” of certain passages so distorted and misunderstood? Lydia’s study uncovered numerous misleading tactics used to protect traditional power. She writes not as an outsider critiquing the church, but as an insider who deeply loves Jesus, Scripture, and the church, and who passionately pursues truth.

Over time, Lydia became convinced that the church and Christian homes are missing God’s best. Their witness to the world is at stake, and restrictive teaching perpetuates harm in the USA and wherever American missionaries take it.

The church, she believes, is on the cusp of reform as God purifies it from corruption and corporate-style hierarchy. This book is Lydia’s contribution to freeing women in their callings, freeing men from undue expectations, and helping both to discover God’s gift of partnership. Many years of teaching experience in the St. Louis area help Lydia make truth accessible for the average layperson.

I was blown away by the research and work that went into Lydia’s book.  I’m a believer with “church baggage,” and this book, packed with surprises, has strengthened my faith.

A meticulously researched study that made me rethink the common understanding of women’s role in Christian contexts. While I also believe God created unique roles for men and women, Lydia’s arguments are persuasive concerning questionable interpretations of Scriptures that make one of those roles a spiritual hierarchy.

Reading this book was a deeply healing experience for me.

As a woman who grew up in the church, I carried quiet wounds I didn’t always have language for.
